Zdeněk Němeček, a Czechoslovakian poet, playwright, author, and diplomat, represented his country in Europe and America until 1939 when his writings brought him into disfavor. After World War II, part of which he spent in a Nazi prison, Němeček returned to diplomatic service but resigned in 1948 after the Communist coup, emigrated to Canada, and in 1950, moved to New York. He continued to write and worked for the Canadain Broadcasting Corporation, Voice of America, and Radio Free Europe. ...
